pricing guide

The biggest question we get from consignors each season is “how should I price my items?” This is a hard question to answer, because it really depends on the brand, quality, and condition of your items.

Here are a few tips:

1) The lower you price, the more you will sell. We know you’ve worked hard to keep your things nice, to prepare and tag them, and you want to get top dollar out of them. We’re not trying to get you to give it away. On the other hand, we’ve done a little research on the dollar amount that we sell the most of. No surprise, it is $3 (the minimum price at past sales). This year, we have changed the minimum price to $2. The lower the price, the more likely it is to sell. That said, if you have some things that are nice, price according to their value. Generally our prices are higher than a garage sale, but lower than you would find that item on sale at the store. Make it a bargain, and it is sure to sell!

2) Sell big-ticket items. Some of our consignors who make the most money are those who have big-ticket items (like furniture, strollers, etc.). Most people think immediately of consigning the clothes their kids have outgrown. These are big sellers, but you will make some more $$ if you check out your garage and the backs of your closets, and really examine what you would like to get rid of. You may be surprised at what you find to sell. Another plus: less clutter!!!

3) Package things separately. Three outfits hanging together priced at $12 won’t sell nearly as well as those same outfits each priced at $4. Some things like bottles, bibs, etc. will have to be in groups, or if you are already selling something at a low price and want to add on something just to “sweeten the deal”, that’s fine.

4) Ask a friend. Sometimes we are so attached to our things that we don’t see their true value. It is more fun to tag and easier to figure out prices if you get together with a friend.

5) Let things go 1/2 off. We sell a TON of stuff on the 50% off sale. If it doesn’t sell by Saturday and it is not marked to go 1/2 off, it is going to have some pretty stiff competition.

6) Use your best judgment. One of the perks of this event is that you choose your own price. There is no right or wrong price; you are the final authority.

Happy Tagging!
